HP-CSIH 5300 - Transpersonal Wisdom

This is a course in transpersonal inquiry. It offers diverse perspectives-experiential, empirical, and transformational-on our potential as spiritual, interconnected beings within an evolving world and cosmos. What dynamics of wisdom might serve now? What models, practices, world views educate for transcendence, expanding beyond-while not neglecting- the conventional?  The course looks at current paradigm shifts underway as spiritual experience and broader intelligences are factored into larger understandings of psyche, consciousness, spirit, sentience, and value.  Among other topics, the course takes up:  views of body-mind-spirit that see beyond the self-centered-both "up and out" and "here and with" perspectives are considered; paths to healing, authenticity, and the numinous through experiential, contemplative, entheogenic, and other means; cultivating participatory thought and respect for all beings that might deepen into compassion. The course encourages students to develop their own transpersonal vision through key teachings, practices, and technologies-and to integrate these within their personal, professional, and community lives. 3 credit(s)
