SW 1004 - Public and Community HealthThis doctoral-level course will familiarize social work students with the concepts and skills needed in public health and community health. This course requires a shift to a community, national, and global perspective on health and disease. Individual decisions are important in health and well-being, but cultural expectations, community practices, and widespread environmental factors shape individual behavior and health. Students in this class will gain understanding and develop skills in the following areas: diagnosing community-based health concerns and understanding the complexities of community, national, and global trends that impact on health. In addition, the course examines community and wider-focused intervention strategies, the development of community coalitions, community-based problem-solving, and community health intervention strategies/approaches. 3 credit(s) |
